Life Beneath the Sea Sand Scultpures

Event Description

NOVEMBER 10, 2021– APRIL 30, 2022

Venture under the sea as you explore giant, incredible sand sculptures hand-crafted by world-class artists! Immerse yourself in the mysterious and beautiful world of marine life through 12 larger-than-life works of art. Sand sculptures will be displayed on the trail in Wild Florida. Life Beneath Our Sea is included with general Zoo admission.

 

MEET THE SCULPTORS

Abe Waterman | Prince Edward Island, Canada

Abe was born and raised in Prince Edward Island, Canada. With a background in painting and drawing, he has been sculpting since 2007. Abe has participated in exhibitions and events around the world creating stunning artwork. His sculpture designs are always imaginative and unique.

David Ducharme | Winlaw BC, Canada

From Winlaw BC, Canada, David studied at the Kootenay School of Art. His extensive background includes metal, clay, stone and carpentry. Sculpting sand since 2003, David is considered a world-class artist. His work is easy to spot with his intricate and beautiful figurative designs. He travels all over the world sculpting for projects, events and competitions.

Bruce Phillips | San Diego, California

Bruce has been involved in the art of sand sculpting for over 25 years. He is known throughout the world, from Tokyo to Amsterdam. He creates amazing works of art at festivals and competitions and does corporate and private events as well. His sculpting style is imaginative and precise, exploring abstract compositions.

Susanne Ruseler | Utrecht, Netherlands

Born in the Netherlands, Susanne started sand sculpting in 2003, while she was studying biology and living in Utrecht. After receiving her Master’s Degree in Animal Behavior and Ecology, she discovered that she loved creating sculptures. Susanne is sought after worldwide and is considered one of the best in the business.

Jon Woodworth | Leander, Texas

From Leander, Texas, Jon began sculpting in 1991. He sculpts throughout the United States and is known for his precise work and clean sculpting. Jon is also a sculptor at the prestigious Sand Museum in Tottori, Japan. With his business and organizational background, he has partnered in multiple large-scale commercial projects.

Thomas Koet | Satellite Beach, Florida

From Satellite Beach, Florida, Thomas is a partner of Sandsational Sand Sculpting. Sculpting for 23 years, Thomas won the “Best Sand Sculptor of the Netherlands” in 2019 for a national TV show and was the 2010 World Champion of Sand Sculpting. Originally from the Netherlands, Thomas has been a designer and sculptor for some of Europe and North America’s largest sand sculpting events.

Jill Harris | Satellite Beach, Florida

Jill, Sandsational Sand Sculpting’s founder, and president is the Life Beneath Our Sea sculpting coordinator and one of the exhibition sculptors. During her 25 years of sculpting, the Satellite Beach native has traveled the world working on large-scale events. Here at Brevard Zoo, Jill is excited to bring another exhibition where she and the world’s best sand artists can truly have a chance to shine.
