While colorful parades with costumed participants going wild are nothing new for Mardi Gras, what sets the Brevard Humane Society’s festivities apart is that its exuberant marchers are…well, just a little wilder. In fact, this Mardi Gras celebration has literally gone to the dogs—with a canine court of “Royal Hairs,” and, of course, its very own pet parade where “pet”-ticipants ride in everything from decorated strollers to elaborate carts and wagons. After the parade, pets may enter the “Best Trick”, “Companion Look-A-Like”, and “Best Costume” contests while their humans enjoy vendors, baked goods, adorable adoptable from animal rescue organizations, and a silent auction. The main highlight at the “tail” end of the event is the coronation pageant when Cocoa’s King and Queen of Mardi Gras will crown their royal companions. Pre-registration of pets is strongly encouraged at Brevard Humane Society
